About
My name is Stephen Thibeault, a data professional working in the metro Detroit area. I have spent years of my professional life turning messy data into things people can use. This website exists as a place to host my writings, side projects, and contact information for consulting work. Much of my current writings and projects focus on helping to teach the fundamentals of data engineering and AI along with occasional opinions and ramblings on the state of the industry. Feel free to drop me an email if you would like to get in contact.
What I work on
My work tends to always start the same way, there's a question someone cares about, and data that doesn't quite answer it yet. I like the part in between, the cleaning, the modeling, the careful checking of assumptions that decides whether a result is trustworthy or just plausible.
Lately I have found a lot of that overlaps with modern AI, figuring out where it can actually helps, where it might mislead, and how to build things that make the difference legible to non-experts. My tools lean toward Python and SQL, with whatever else a given problem asks for.
